백반증을 이겨낸 12년, 나의 회복 이야기

안녕하세요, 저는 한국에 사는 신창훈입니다.

12년이라는 긴 시간 동안 백반증과 함께 생활하며 큰 아픔과 시련을 겪었지만, 지금은 마침내 백반증에서 벗어날 수 있었습니다.

2014년, 온몸으로 백반증이 번졌을 때 저는 반팔 셔츠와 반바지를 모두 쓰레기통에 버렸습니다. 다시는 이 옷들을 입지 못할 거라고 생각하며 쓰레기통을 바라보던 그때의 절망감을 아직도 잊을 수 없습니다.

사우나를 무척 좋아했지만, 사람들의 시선이 두려워 새벽이나 늦은 시간에만 몰래 방문해야 했습니다. 후다닥 사우나를 마치고 집으로 돌아오던 제 마음을 주변 사람들은 쉽게 이해하지 못했죠.

하지만 이제는 그 모든 아픔을 극복하고 백반증에서 벗어났습니다. 오랜 투병 생활을 함께하지 않았던 사람들은 현재의 제 모습을 보고 과거의 제가 백반증 환자였다는 사실을 믿지 못하기도 합니다. 그래서 12년간의 변화를 담은 사진들을 보여주며 저의 회복 과정을 증명하곤 합니다.

제가 좋아하는 소크라테스의 명언처럼, "유일한 진정한 지혜는 당신이 아무것도 모른다는 것을 아는 데 있다"는 것을 깨달았습니다. 예전에 저는 몸의 여러 질병 신호들을 무시하고 살았지만, 이제는 진정한 지혜를 얻어 건강을 되찾는 좋은 결과를 얻었습니다.

저의 회복 스토리가 지금 아픔을 겪고 있는 많은 분들에게 희망과 용기를 줄 수 있었으면 좋겠습니다.

 

 

My 12-Year Journey to Overcome Vitiligo

Hello, my name is Changhun Shin and I live in South Korea. For 12 long years, I lived with vitiligo, enduring great pain and hardship. But today, I have finally overcome it.

In 2014, when the vitiligo had spread all over my body, I threw away all my short-sleeve shirts and shorts. I will never forget the despair I felt as I looked at that trash can, believing I would never wear those clothes again.

I used to love saunas, but I was so afraid of people's stares that I would sneak in late at night or early in the morning, finish quickly, and rush back home. The people around me couldn't understand what I was going through.

However, I have now overcome all that pain and am free from vitiligo. People who didn't know about my long battle with the disease often find it hard to believe I was a vitiligo patient. That's why I sometimes show them photos from the past 12 years to prove my recovery journey.

Like the famous quote from Socrates that I love, "The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing," I've come to realize this truth. In the past, I ignored many of the warning signs my body was giving me, but now I have gained true wisdom and achieved a wonderful result: my health is restored.

I hope my story of recovery can bring hope and courage to many people who are currently suffering.
