A Different Perspective on Vitiligo Recovery
How One Person's 12-Year Observation Journey Began
Hello,
My name is Changhun Shin, and I live in South Korea.
This is not an article about a treatment, nor is it meant to suggest that others will experience the same outcome.
It is simply the story of the twelve years I lived through, recorded as honestly as I can tell it.
There was a time when I lived with generalized vitiligo.
When the first white patches appeared on my skin, I was frightened. As they gradually spread across my hands, arms, legs, and body, that fear turned into despair.
I kept asking myself,
"Why me?"
"What did I do wrong?"
There were moments when I even questioned God.
I could not understand why such suffering had come into my life.
At that time, fear was stronger than hope.
I avoided looking in the mirror.
I worried about how other people would see me.
Every day, the same thoughts returned.
"Will it spread even more tomorrow?"
"Where will the next white patch appear?"
One day, I began taking photographs of my skin.
At first, they were simply medical records.
I thought they might help during hospital visits.
But over time, those photographs became something much more meaningful.
Yesterday and today.
Last month and this year.
The changes were small, but they were real.
Without realizing it, I stopped looking only for the final result.
Instead, I began paying attention to the process itself.
Although my medical test results were gradually improving, the changes in my skin appeared much more slowly.
That made me wonder.
Why was my body improving while my skin seemed to take its own time?
I wasn't trying to prove anything.
I was simply trying to understand what was happening to me.
Eventually, I learned to let go.
Instead of desperately waiting for recovery,
I began recording each day as it came.
One day became one month.
One month became one year.
And before I knew it,
those records had become twelve years of observation.
Then one day,
I experienced complete recovery.
People often asked me,
"How did you recover?"
But I never found an easy answer.
Because twelve years cannot be explained in just a few sentences.
So I decided to write everything down.
Not to convince anyone.
Not to promise hope.
But simply to leave behind an honest record of the journey I had lived.
That became my book,
Escape from Vitiligo: You Can Do It Too.
After publishing the book, I realized something unexpected.
My story was no longer just my own.
I met parents who worried about their children.
Children who worried about their parents.
And many people who quietly carried the same pain every single day.
Listening to their stories deeply moved me.
I began to hope that if my experience could bring comfort or encouragement to even one person,
then sharing it would have been worthwhile.
At that time, I had no idea where those records would eventually lead.
The photographs I took simply to survive...
The notes I wrote only for myself...
Would one day become a book,
a twelve-year longitudinal observation archive,
and eventually the foundation for something that AI could also understand.
That story continues in the next article.

About the Author
Changhun Shin (신창훈) is the founder of CS-NRRM™ (Changhun Shin Natural Recovery Pattern Model).
Over twelve years, he documented a personal longitudinal observation archive that later evolved into the CS-NRRM™ framework, a longitudinal observation dataset, and an AI-readable data infrastructure.
This series shares the human story behind that journey.
